Chapter 11 - ALESSIO DOES NOT BEAT HIM

Everyone expected Alessio to hit Trent.
He did not.
Even I expected it.
After police took statements, Trent was released pending further investigation.
No dramatic van.
No underground room.
He left with his lawyer.
Alessio watched through the club window.
His hands remained in his pockets.
I asked:
“Are you okay?”
He looked at me.
“Why are you asking me?”
Because I had spent my life checking powerful men before deciding whether the room was safe.
I realized it as the question left my mouth.
“I don’t know.”
Alessio looked toward the exit.
“I want to hurt him.”
“Don’t.”
“I’m not.”
That mattered.
Then:
“How long?”
I knew what he meant.
“How long has he been hurting you?”
“He broke my wrist.”
“Before that?”
“No hitting.”
“Other things?”
I sat.
Door blocking.
Wrist grabbing.
Phone breaking.
Reading messages.
Telling me which family wives I should avoid because they “poisoned marriages.”
Nothing spectacular alone.
Together:
A shape.
Alessio listened.
Then asked:
“Why didn’t you call?”
I almost laughed.
“Because he told me everything stays inside the family.”
“I’m inside.”
“That’s exactly why.”
He stopped.
May you like
Good.
The sentence needed to hurt him too.
