Chapter 14 - THE FAREWELL LETTER
A document examiner compared the 2018 farewell letter with Sarah’s handwriting.
Forged.
Good forgery.
Likely traced from several genuine letters.
Then Sarah remembered something.
“I wrote something similar.”
“What?”
“A draft.”
Marcus had asked her after our fight:
“If Nathan never apologizes, what would you say?”
She wrote a rage-filled journal entry.
You wanted me to choose. I chose.
I am tired of being treated like a problem you can solve.
Those exact phrases appeared in my farewell letter.
Marcus stole private anger and converted it into communication.
That explained why I believed it.
The lie sounded like Sarah because parts had been Sarah.
The document examiner traced printer characteristics to a machine formerly registered to Warren Voss’s law office.
Warren said old equipment had been sold.
Records showed that printer remained in the office six months after the letter date.
His defense narrowed.
He did not personally write it.
He did not know Marcus’s purpose.
He provided “communications assistance.”
Then prosecutors found an invoice.
“Draft correspondence—Carter/Pierce separation.”
Separation.
