Chapter 7 - THE TRUST

Andrew Harris had sold a software-security company four years before his death.
Not a household name.
Successful enough.
After taxes, his estate exceeded twelve million dollars.
Most went into a trust.
Beneficiary:
Caleb.
Martha was not owner.
She received survivor support and could request distributions for Caleb’s health, education, housing, and welfare.
Independent trustee:
Frontier Fiduciary Bank.
Family adviser:
Rebecca Harris.
At least originally.
After Andrew’s death, Martha petitioned to remove Rebecca as adviser.
Why?
“Family hostility.”
Court granted temporary removal after Martha presented messages suggesting Rebecca threatened to take Caleb.
Rebecca admitted sending one.
If you keep isolating him, I’ll take you to court and I will not stop.
Not a kidnapping threat.
Angry enough to look bad.
Martha used it.
Rebecca lost advisory access.
Replacement family adviser:
Greg Dalton.
My stomach turned.

Not because boyfriends cannot be trusted.
Because the timing mattered.
