Chapter 21 - MARTHA’S PLEA
Martha eventually accepted a plea.
She admitted:
Greg caused the fracture during forceful restraint.
She helped report a false accident.
She canceled orthopedic follow-ups.
She knew the cast was wet, foul-smelling, painful, and increasingly dangerous.
She delayed hospital care partly to prevent discovery of earlier injuries and fraudulent trust claims.
She approved false reimbursement documents.
No language saying she wanted Caleb permanently disabled.
The judge asked:
“Why did you not protect your son?”
Martha cried.
“I thought if everything came out, I would lose him.”
The judge responded:
“And what did your efforts to keep him cost him?”
Martha had no answer.
She received a custodial sentence followed by supervision and no contact unless future child-safety proceedings permitted it.
