Chapter 13 - The Old Letter
The attorney discovered another document.
A letter from Taryn's father.
It had never been shown to her.
The letter explained why he had created the trust.
He had watched the family dynamic carefully.
He knew Doreen favored certain relatives.
He feared Lula would someday become a target.
His final instruction was simple.
The trust was intended to give Lula independence.
Not luxury.
Not status.
Independence.
Taryn read the letter twice.
Then she cried.
Her father had understood.
He had seen what she hadn't been ready to see.
That evening, she showed the letter to Lula.
Lula couldn't read all of it.
“What's it say?”
Taryn smiled sadly.
“Grandpa wanted you to have something nobody could take away.”
“What?”
“Your future.”
Lula hugged her.
Taryn held her tightly.
She finally understood why Doreen had reacted so violently.
It wasn't because of a cake.
