Chapter 12 - The Empty Gift Table
Taryn returned to the hotel office.
She opened old records.
Then older records.
She found a familiar name.
Lula.
Her daughter's name appeared in a trust document.
Taryn froze.
She read the document again.
The trust had been created years earlier by Taryn's father.
It contained a provision stating that a portion of the family's holdings would be placed in trust for Lula when she turned eighteen.
But another document had been added later.
That document attempted to transfer control of the trust to Doreen.
Taryn's hands became cold.
Her mother hadn't just taken Lula's presents.
She had tried to take Lula's future.
Taryn printed everything.
Then she called an attorney.
“I need you to review something.”
“What is it?”
“My mother has been controlling a trust created for my daughter.”
The attorney went silent.
