Chapter 24 - CHLOE AND EMMA

Nine months after Thanksgiving, Emma agreed to see Chloe.
Therapist’s office.
Chloe cried immediately.
“I’m sorry Mom hit you.”
Emma said:
“You didn’t hit me.”
“I wanted the box.”
“Yes.”
“Grandma Helen told me it was probably going to me.”
“It wasn’t.”
“I know.”
Emma looked at her.
“Would you have given it back?”
Chloe thought.
“I don’t know.”
Good answer.
“I was mad because you always get Grandpa’s old stuff.”
Emma laughed.
“You get expensive stuff.”
“I know.”
They stared at each other.
Then Chloe:
“My mom says your mom ruined everything.”
Emma answered:
“My mom says adults ruined it themselves.”

I had not said exactly that.
Close enough.
