Chapter 15 - KAREN’S VERSION OF FAIR
I asked Karen one question during mediation.
“Did you know you had received more?”
She answered:
“Money isn’t the only measure.”
Of course.
“What measure are we using?”
“Daniel had stability.”
“You had money.”
“He had Grandma’s respect.”
“So?”
“You don’t understand.”
“Then explain.”
Karen looked at her parents.
“Daniel was always the good one.”
There it was.
Not finances.

“Dad trusted him.”
“Grandma liked him.”
“Teachers liked him.”
“Everything came easier.”
Daniel looked stunned.
Karen continued:
“So yes, maybe I got more help. I needed more help.”
That part could be true.
Then:
“It still never felt equal.”
Feelings had become accounting rules.
I finally understood.
No amount of money could equalize an emotional wound Karen refused to name.
