Chapter 25 - MY NEW HOUSE

I bought a small house at forty-seven.
Not small by ordinary standards.
Small compared with Coleman House.
Three bedrooms.
Garden.
Wide front steps.
Donna visited.
She went toward the side gate automatically.
“Mom.”
She stopped.
“What?”
“Front door.”
She smiled.
“Old habit.”
We walked in together.
No trust.
No occupancy agreement.
My deed.
My mortgage.
Still, I made one rule:
Nobody entering my house became less important because I owned it.
Ownership gave responsibility.
Not rank.

I wrote no plaque.
Just practiced it.
