Chapter 13 - PAUL DANNER

Paul Danner’s legal trouble was more complicated.
He had not forged Donna’s signature.
He had not locked the kennel.
He had seen the confinement.
Understood the consent was compromised.
Then forwarded the document anyway.
Prosecutors charged him with fraud-related false certification and obstruction of fiduciary process.
He pleaded.
Cooperated.
Lost his license for a period.
Received probation, home confinement, and restitution obligations.
No dramatic prison sentence.
His testimony exposed Hattie’s document trail.
One email:
HATTIE:
Donna is emotional. Consent is valid.
PAUL:
She said no in the shed.
HATTIE:
She says many things.
PAUL:
Then we need a clean signature.
HATTIE:
We have one.
PAUL:
From where?
No answer.
Yet Paul forwarded.
That was his choice.
Later he told investigators:
“I convinced myself the trustee would verify.”
