Chapter 8 - THE CHILD THEY CALLED TRUE
Theo entered child therapy too.
Not because he had been physically abused.
Because favoritism can injure the favored child.
He had been told:
You are the real Keller.
Micah is not.
You deserve the big room.
Micah stays down.
Grandma loves good boys.
Theo started asking whether being “real” could disappear if he behaved badly.
Sabrina admitted that during family court.
Her son had begun hiding cake.
Different reason than Micah.
Fear of losing privilege.
Adults poisoned both sides of the hierarchy.
Theo’s father—legally unknown until now—became an issue.
Sabrina had dated a man named Ryan Cole around conception.
She used his surname for Theo.
Ryan moved to Oregon before birth.
He had offered paternity testing.
Sabrina refused.
Why?
“Lorraine told me not to.”
Lorraine knew Sabrina before Graham’s affair restarted.
They met through charity events.
Apparently Lorraine liked Sabrina.
More than me.
Sabrina said Lorraine began suggesting Theo might be Graham’s before Graham himself believed it.
“What did you think?” Rebecca asked.
“I wanted it to be true.”
That was honest.
“Why?”
“Because Graham had money.”
Then:
“And because he cared about Theo.”
Mixed motive.
Ryan Cole agreed to provide a DNA sample voluntarily after being contacted through proper legal channels.
No result yet.
The court would compare.
Meanwhile, North Coast found the fourth-birthday clause.
Helen refused to explain privately before formal disclosure because all beneficiaries deserved equal notice.
Fine.
We knew only the label:
LINEAL BENEFICIARY GOVERNANCE RESET.
Graham’s lawyers tried to delay Micah’s DNA test until after birthday.
Why?
If Micah remained “unverified” on the trigger date, perhaps something changed.
North Coast opposed.
The judge moved hearing earlier.
Pressure increased.
Then someone broke into the estate records room.
Security logs showed an employee badge.
Maria Santos.
She denied it.
Camera footage showed a taller person wearing her coat and using her badge.
Her coat had been left in staff room.
Who had access?
Almost everyone.
Nothing valuable appeared missing.
Then North Coast discovered one paper file removed.

The original Carrington report.
Digital copy existed.
Whoever stole it either did not know or wanted the physical chain.
Ortiz investigated.
Sabrina’s driver admitted Lorraine paid him $4,000 to “collect a family file.”
He took it.
Delivered it to Lorraine.
Police recovered it from her attorney’s office before destruction.
Her attorney said he had not reviewed contents.
No charge against him.
Lorraine now faced possible evidence-tampering investigation.
Graham said he knew nothing.
Then his text appeared.
To Lorraine:
Get rid of the old lab packet before Audrey’s people see probability.
He knew exactly what the hidden page said.
The DNA result had not even been revealed yet.

And he still called the child’s paternity unresolved.
