Chapter 16 - LORRAINE’S HOUSE OF RULES

Lorraine’s trial was worse emotionally.
She did not hide behind confusion.
She defended her system.
“Children require hierarchy.”
The prosecutor asked:
“Does hierarchy require crawling?”
“For Micah, it became a corrective posture.”
“Prescribed by whom?”
“No one.”
“Why use it?”
“He was defiant.”
“Three.”
“Yes.”
“Why food under the table?”
“To reinforce boundaries.”
“Why tell staff to make him look consistent with a psychiatric report?”
Lorraine paused.
“That phrase is being distorted.”
Video played.
By Friday he needs to look consistent.
“With the report?”
“Yes.
No distortion.
She admitted fearing the Governance Reset.
“Arthur’s trust was badly designed.”
“It limited your authority.”
“It fractured the family.”
“Those are not the same statement.”
Lorraine disliked that.
The financial evidence showed her thirty-percent nominee interest in K-Line.
She said she intended to hold it for family stewardship.
No trust instrument said that.
Private ownership documents did.
She would benefit.
The old DNA reports hurt most.
“Did you know Micah was almost certainly Graham’s son?”
“I knew a private test suggested it.”
“Did you call him fake anyway?”
“I called legal status unresolved.”
“What did you call Theo?”
She stared.
“True heir.”
“Knowing Graham had been excluded by another private test?”
“The samples were not legally verified.”
“So uncertainty made Micah illegitimate and Theo legitimate?”
Lorraine’s lawyer objected.
The question was argumentative.
Sustained.
The point remained.
Her logic always moved toward control.
The jury convicted Lorraine of:
Child cruelty.
Unlawful confinement tied to pantry episodes.
Conspiracy to fabricate behavioral evidence.
Attempted trust fraud.
Evidence tampering involving the DNA file.
False filings.
Conspiracy with Graham.
She was acquitted of one assault count where the wooden pointer evidence could not establish injury beyond reasonable doubt.
Micah’s bruises had multiple possible causes.
No overclaim.
At sentencing later, those limits would matter.
Sabrina’s testimony helped convict Lorraine.
Lorraine called her a liar afterward.
Sabrina had lied for years.
That did not make every new statement false.

Evidence corroborated.
Family alliances became irrelevant once records spoke.
