Chapter 15 - THE VERDICT AGAINST GRAHAM
The jury convicted Graham of:
Forgery involving my trust authorization.
Wire fraud tied to attempted extraordinary transfers.
Conspiracy to manipulate beneficiary status.
Child endangerment.
Falsification of medical/behavioral records submitted in custody proceedings.
Obstruction related to pediatric record cancellations.
They acquitted him of one aggravated abuse count requiring proof he personally inflicted serious physical injury.
No evidence showed he caused every bruise.
They acquitted one theft count involving the $18.4 million branch loans because some loans were authorized investments and the prosecution could not prove permanent deprivation across the entire amount.
Mixed.
Correct.
Civil audit would handle repayment.
The verdict did not declare Graham a monster.
It declared specific acts proven beyond reasonable doubt.
He looked at me afterward.
Not Lorraine.
Not Sabrina.
Me.
I wondered whether he still believed I destroyed him.
Probably.
His sentencing waited.
Lorraine’s trial next.
Micah saw none of it.
He knew:
Daddy Graham made unsafe choices and cannot see you right now.
At four, enough.
He stopped asking daily.
Then one night:
“Daddy live?”
“Yes.”
“Not heaven?”
“No.”
He thought.
“Can he call?”
“Not yet.”
“Why?”
“Court rules.”
“Because bad?”
“Because grown-ups are deciding what is safe.”
He hated adult answers.
