Chapter 18 - LORETTA’S DEFENSE
Loretta did not deny much.
She denied cruelty.
That was her strategy.
She said:
Brace removal was an attempt to encourage confidence.
Room move was temporary family necessity.
Residential rehab was a legitimate option she was researching.
Therapy cancellations were scheduling.
Meal? No food issue in this story. Good.
She had not beaten Isolde.
Had not locked her up.
Had not intended a fall.
All partly true.
Then the prosecutor asked:
“Did Dr. Mallory recommend walking without the brace at family dinner?”
“No.”
“Did he recommend residential rehabilitation?”
“No.”
“Did he tell you to cancel therapy?”
“No.”
“Did you move Isolde farther from the bathroom despite her brace?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Claudia needed the room.”
