Chapter 5 - DANIEL CROSS

My attorney arrived at the hospital at 1:40 a.m.

Daniel Cross was forty-eight.

The kind of lawyer who became calmer the more everyone else panicked.

He listened.

Then asked Grace:

“May I photograph the emails?”

She looked at me.

I shook my head.

“Your choice.”

Good.

She allowed it.

Daniel asked:

“Do you still have devices from when these were received?”

“One old phone.”

“Keep it.”

Then he turned to me.

“Family Management controls which accounts?”

“Too many.”

“Can Victoria move money?”

“Not directly from my personal accounts.”

“Trust?”

“Some reimbursement approvals.”

“Holding company?”

“No single authority.”

“Good.”

“Why?”

“Because if this is fraud, the first job is preserving systems without harming employees or Sophia.”

Grace looked at him.

“Why would his mother do this?”

Daniel answered:

“We don’t know that she did everything.”

Correct.

I hated him for saying it.

Still correct.

Then:

May you like

“What happened to the fifty thousand?”

“We find out.”
