Grace had lived at Harbor House for three months.
The director, Monica Hale, knew her.
“She never said she was married to Alexander Sterling.”
I looked at Grace.
She shrugged.
“I didn’t want anyone calling your family.”
Monica continued:
“She said her husband was dead.”
My throat tightened.
“Did she receive money?”
“Occasionally.”
“How much?”
“Small transfers. Fifteen hundred. Two thousand.”
“From?”
“Sterling Family Services.”
Different entity.
Not Sterling Family Management.
Daniel looked at me.
Shell?

Then Monica said:
“Someone offered Grace a permanent apartment if she signed guardianship paperwork.”
