Chapter 24 - SOPHIA MEETS VICTORIA AGAIN

Not for two years.
Sophia was seven.
Therapist present.
Victoria no longer wore intimidating gala clothes.
No pearls.
Sophia noticed anyway.
“Grandma.”
Victoria cried.
Sophia did not hug her.
“Why did you say Daddy was dead?”
Victoria answered carefully.
“I told your mother something that made her believe he had died.”
Sophia frowned.
“That’s worse.”
Smart child.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“I wanted your mother to stop trying to contact him.”
“Why?”
“I thought your father needed to focus on work.”
Sophia stared.
“So you took my dad because of work?”
Victoria cried harder.
“No.”

“That’s what it sounds like.”
No one rescued Victoria from the sentence.
