Chapter 23 - GRACE DOESN’T COME BACK TO ME

I thought exposing the truth would fix us.

That was arrogance.

Grace did not move back into my apartment.

Did not wear her wedding ring again.

Did not say:

Now I understand.

She said:

“You still believed them.”

“I was lied to.”

“So was I.”

“I didn’t know.”

“Neither did I.”

Then:

“But I was poor, Alexander. Poor people don’t get to assume paperwork means everything is fine.”

That hurt.

“You had resources. Staff. Lawyers. A plane.”

“Not my own plane.”

She stared.

“Really?”

Fair.

“I could have checked.”

“Yes.”

“I didn’t.”

“Yes.”
