Chapter 9 - WHY THE ATTIC
Trisha told investigators she refused to let Sophie sleep downstairs.
“I didn’t know what she might say.”
About what?
Dennis’s affair.
Her mother.
How she had really been living.
Sophie had apparently asked Trisha:
“Are you Grandma?”
Trisha said no.
Sophie replied:
“Marlene says my grandma’s name is Trisha.”
That frightened her.
If Sophie knew names, she knew connections.
Trisha confronted Dennis.
He told her:
“Kara lied about everything. Sophie is confused.”
Then:
“Keep her upstairs until we sort it out.”
Trisha helped move the mattress.
She carried crackers.
She provided the water.
Dennis moved the wardrobe.
Both participated.
