A domestic-violence advocacy organization in Arizona confirmed—after appropriate authorization—that a woman matching Kara’s identity had received services years earlier.
Then confidentiality stopped the trail.
Trisha’s death story was false.
Where did it come from?
Dennis.
He sent Trisha an obituary.
Kara Bennett.
Age twenty-one.
Tucson.
Overdose.
Different middle name.
Different birthday.
Same first and last name.
Trisha saw what grief expected to see.
Dennis told her he confirmed through “a friend in Arizona.”
She never called the morgue.
