Chapter 8 - THE ACCOUNT IN MAYA’S NAME

Lena refused to proceed without the entire truth.

This time, I did not argue.

I told her my father had created a protected trust after an attempted kidnapping when I was twenty-five. I did not explain the assets yet, only that Maya became a contingent beneficiary at birth.

Julian knew I had family money.

He did not know the structure when we married.

At least, that was what I had believed.

The neutral examiner found no Vance data on the encrypted device. It contained authentication keys, emergency contacts, and references to sealed trust records.

The theft claim collapsed.

The audit log showed someone attempted to open a beneficiary file in Maya’s name three months earlier.

The request came through Julian’s office network.

He denied making it.

His assistant admitted scanning Maya’s birth certificate at his direction.

“He said it was for school enrollment.”

The document had been uploaded into a private Vance legal portal.

From there, someone created an account titled M.V. FAMILY REPRESENTATIVE.

Julian was listed as representative.

Victor was secondary approver.

The account held no money.

It appeared designed to receive authority later.

Lena obtained the draft proxy I tore.

It would have allowed Julian to vote, borrow against, or transfer any asset passing to Maya through my family.

A five-year-old cannot grant that authority.

The document depended on my signature as parent and trustee representative.

The dinner was meant to force that signature.

If I refused calmly, they would use financial pressure.

If I reacted violently, they would threaten custody.

Genevieve’s role was not yet fully proved.

Then her bank records surfaced through the company inquiry.

Victor had transferred her 300,000 dollars two days before the dinner.

Memo: successful family presentation.

The money remained in her account.

Payment before performance.

Police located her at a private airfield.

Inside her luggage was a second encrypted handset and a printed route from my kidnapping seven years earlier.

Someone in the Vance family had not merely discovered my secret.

They had been connected to the event that forced me into hiding.
