Chapter 12 - THE RECORDING IN THE WALL

Police could not search the mansion because Genevieve claimed evidence existed somewhere inside it.
They needed specificity and corroboration.
She described a hidden media cabinet behind the library’s eastern wall. Victor used it to store sensitive recordings outside the company network.
Old architectural plans confirmed a service cavity there.
A former technician remembered installing an isolated power line.
A warrant followed.
The cabinet contained drives, paper ledgers, and a backup of the chandelier recordings.
It also contained Project Thread rehearsal audio.
Victor’s voice assigned roles.
Victoria would bring Maya toward Genevieve.
Genevieve would provoke contact.
Guests would begin filming after Eleanor reacted.
Julian would calm her and present the proxy.
If she refused, the edited video would support emergency custody and incapacity claims.
Then came the argument that destroyed Julian’s final defense.
Genevieve said, “What if the child gets hurt?”
Julian answered, “She only needs to cry.”
Victoria laughed.
“My granddaughter knows how to perform.”
Genevieve asked, “And if Eleanor takes Maya and leaves?”
Julian replied, “The passport is ready. Mother gets Maya out before any order reaches us.”
He had known about the flight.
He had known Maya could be frightened or struck.
He had known the video would be edited.
His participation was no longer passive.
The cabinet also held financial ledgers proving Victor diverted 12.4 million dollars through consulting companies and private property purchases.
Julian received 1.1 million labeled succession preparation.
Victoria’s payment after Maya’s birth came from the same structure.
Genevieve’s dinner fee was documented beside her initials.
Adrian formally notified the lenders of default and requested independent restructuring rather than immediate conversion.
Victor responded with one final move.
He called an emergency Vance Global board meeting and proposed selling the company’s most valuable hotel portfolio to a private buyer before Blackwood Meridian could intervene.
The buyer was controlled through another Victor-related entity.
The sale would move assets beyond the reach of employees, creditors, and the trust.
The meeting was scheduled for the following morning.
Julian still held a board seat.
From custody review, he sent me a message through counsel:
Give me the proxy tonight. I can stop my father.
He was asking me to place the same power in his hands after proof showed what he had done.
Lena asked what I wanted to answer.
“Nothing.”
“What will you do instead?”
I looked at the original rescue agreement.

For years, I had treated my father’s power as a cage.
Now I had to decide whether refusing to use it would protect my freedom—or merely leave Victor free to destroy everyone beneath him.
