Chapter 10 - WHAT MY FATHER OWNED

My father’s name was Adrian Blackwood.
Publicly, he was known as the founder of Blackwood Sentinel, a private infrastructure-security company that built encrypted systems for hospitals, banks, and government contractors.
Privately, he controlled Blackwood Meridian Capital, the fund that rescued Vance Global Estates after Victor’s disastrous expansion twelve years earlier.
The rescue came through convertible debt and a blind trust.
If Vance Global defaulted or committed material fraud, the Blackwood trust could convert its position into forty-one percent voting control.
I held the deciding family proxy.
After Maya’s birth, part of that authority would pass into a protected descendant trust if I died or became legally incapacitated.
Julian had not needed my money.
He needed my signature—or evidence strong enough to remove me and act through Maya.
The red thread was an emergency authenticator created after the kidnapping attempt. Breaking it confirmed my identity and warned my father’s office that my concealment had failed.
The device carried no fortune.
It carried the power to freeze trust actions until I appeared in person.
Victor’s company faced a forty-eight-million-dollar refinancing shortfall.
An internal audit suggested twelve million had been diverted through related companies.
If Blackwood Meridian reviewed the records, Victor and Vanessa—no, Genevieve—would lose control and face investigation.
Project Thread was their solution.
Humiliate me.
Provoke me.
Make me activate the channel.
Trace the response.
Force a proxy.
If I refused, portray me as violent and seek control through Maya.
My father entered Lena’s office without an entourage.
I had not seen him in four years.
“You should have told me Julian knew,” I said.
“I did not know how much.”
“You suspected the Vances after the kidnapping.”
“Yes.”
“And you let me marry him.”
“You were thirty. You told me to stay out of your life.”
His restraint had not been respect.
It had been another form of cowardice.
“I spent seven years hiding because your security failed.”
“I know.”
“Then I married into the family you suspected.”
“I know.”
The phrase angered me because Julian used it too.
Knowledge after harm was cheap.
Adrian placed the original Vance rescue agreement on the table.
Attached was an old incident report.
Victor’s company had supplied the vehicle that diverted my convoy.
The driver who changed the route was Harrison.
He saved me.
The false route had been submitted by Victor’s logistics office.
The kidnapping and Project Thread were separated by years.
They were connected by the same motive: gaining leverage over Blackwood control.
Then Adrian showed us the current audit.
The missing twelve million had not gone only to Victor.
Part had funded Genevieve.
May you like
Part had funded Julian’s private account.
And one payment had gone to Victoria three hours after Maya was born.
