Chapter 4 - THE POSTPARTUM LOG
Brielle began keeping notes.
Not secretly at first.
A shared baby-care app.
Feeds.
Diapers.
Sleep.
Weight.
Pediatric appointments.
Normal.
Daniel liked data.
Tessa tolerated it.
Brielle was added when she helped during the second week.
Then extra notes appeared.
Tessa cried at 2:10 p.m.
Tessa forgot which breast was last used.
Tessa slept through one cry while Daniel held baby.
Tessa said she “cannot do this” during difficult night.
Tessa skipped lunch.
Tessa refused nurse.
Tessa became irritated when June cried during shower.
None of those entries described incapacity.
They described postpartum life.
Tessa removed Brielle from the app.
Brielle called.
“Why?”
“Because you’re writing about me.”
“It’s care context.”
“I’m not a patient.”
“June is.”
“Then log June.”
Brielle said:
“You’re sensitive.”
Tessa ended the call.
The notes should have ended.
They did not.
