Charles and Helen remained in their house.
I did not try to take it.
The vase was gone.
That was enough symbolism.
Charles paid for an independent appraisal of the broken pieces.
Insurance declined full coverage because circumstances involved intentional subsequent handling? Complicated.
Ultimately, I paid nothing.
Owen’s accident had started the break.
Lisa’s assault and later chaos complicated liability.
Charles refused to pursue me.
Probably guilt.
I would have paid a reasonable share if asked.
More important:
Charles removed himself from family financial control.
He began therapy.
Helen did too.
Contact with Owen became supervised at first.
Later limited unsupervised visits after he chose.
Lisa did not see him for almost two years.
Her children did.
