Chapter 22 - GRANT’S COMPANY FAILS

Grant kept saying eighty people would lose their jobs.

Some did.

Caldwell Hospitality entered restructuring.

One restaurant closed.

The original flagship survived after sale to an investor group.

Catering sold separately.

About twenty-eight employees lost positions.

Others kept working.

I hated that.

Not because it made the fraud acceptable.

Because adult wrongdoing creates victims nobody intended.

Grant used that fact constantly.

“If Rachel had given us three more months—”

No.

Businesses fail for reasons larger than one person refusing unauthorized collateral.

His company was already overleveraged.
