Chapter 17 - MORGAUSE ASKS FOR FORGIVENESS TOO EARLY

Morgause sent Eluned a six-page letter.

Dr. Corinne read it first.

Then returned it unopened to my attorney.

Why?

It contained:

I was stressed.

Your father depended on me.

Grandpa misunderstood.

Cerys felt second.

I wanted you to learn responsibility.

Then:

I am sorry you were frightened.

Not:

I am sorry I frightened you.

Too much explanation.

Too little ownership.

My attorney told hers:

No more letters to Eluned unless therapist-approved.

Morgause became furious.

“She gets to keep my daughter away and my niece away?”

Cerys was not hers alone.

Owen still allowed cousin contact.

Eluned was my daughter.

No aunt has automatic access.

Then Morgause’s lawyer proposed family therapy.

Too soon.

Dr. Corinne said:

“Therapy is not an audience for apology.”

Good.

Morgause needed individual work first.

Then she sent me an apology.

Shorter.

I destroyed your trust.

True.

I should have told you I could not keep providing childcare.

True.

I should never have used Eluned’s meals, glasses, or chores to express resentment.

True.

Then:

You also need to own how much you placed on me.

I hated the sentence.

It was also true.

The problem was timing.

Accountability can contain context without becoming barter.

I replied through counsel:

I acknowledge I relied on you too heavily and did not check whether the arrangement was sustainable. That does not reduce your responsibility for Eluned’s treatment.

No more.

May you like

Balanced.

Painful.
