Chapter 14 - MY SLAP

The prosecutor offered me diversion.

Misdemeanor assault.

No serious injury.

One slap.

Morgause’s cheek bruised.

She had a small back strain from the collapsed bench.

I paid documented medical copay.

Completed anger-management.

No conviction after compliance.

I did not argue:

But look what she did first.

Eluned had already been in my arms.

Morgause was standing still.

I hit because I was furious.

Then class.

“What did the slap tell your daughter?”

“That I would fight for her.”

The instructor waited.

I corrected.

“That is what I wanted it to say.”

“What might she have heard?”

“That adults hit when angry.”

Good.

Then:

“What did Cerys hear?”

“My uncle can knock my mother down.”

There.

No heroic edit.

Then I apologized to Cerys.

“I should not have hit your mom.”

She looked confused.

“But she broke Eluned’s glasses.”

“Yes.”

“That was bad.”

“Yes.”

“Then why you sorry?”

“Because I’m responsible for what I do.”

She thought.

May you like

“Adults are annoying.”

Correct.
