Chapter 5 - VICTOR’S VERSION
Victor Costa insisted his son had not pushed Lucia.
He believed the fall was pregnancy-related dizziness.
The video, he said, would prove it.
That surprised police.
“You’ve seen it?”
Victor corrected.
“No. Adrian told me what happened.”
“Before you reached the house?”
“Yes.”
“What did he say?”
“That Lucia became dizzy on the stairs and fell.”
“Did he mention recording?”
A pause.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“He had been documenting her episodes.”
There.
Victor knew recordings existed.
Why document?
“Because Lucia had been denying the severity of her symptoms.”
According to whom?
Adrian.
Did Victor suggest medical evaluation?
“Yes.”
Had Lucia refused?
He claimed so.
Lucia later denied refusing.
Medical records supported her.
She had discussed dizziness with her obstetrician once.
The doctor recommended hydration, meals, blood pressure monitoring and further evaluation if symptoms persisted.
Adrian attended that appointment.
No one documented “mental instability.”
Then Victor’s most damaging sentence:
“Adrian was trying to protect himself.”
“From what?”
“Lucia accusing him of causing things he didn’t cause.”
So before the staircase fall, the Costas were already framing the problem as disputed reality.
Then why did Victor grab the phone in the ER?
He said:
“To protect my son’s private property from Salvatore.”
Possible.
Then:
“Did you know the video might show Adrian pushing Lucia?”
“No.”
“Did Adrian tell you anything incriminating was on it?”
Victor’s lawyer ended the interview.
