Chapter 23 - THE VIDEO IN COURT
The jury watched the staircase video twice.
The first time, Lucia looked down.
The second, she watched.
Adrian did not.
The prosecutor did not slow the shove into melodrama.
Normal speed.
Then frame-by-frame only to establish body position.
Adrian behind Lucia.
Lucia facing away.
His hand extended.
Contact.
Forward motion.
Fall.
Then four seconds before he moves.
Defense argued:
He reached because she was already unstable.
Biomechanics expert for prosecution said the video was more consistent with force applied from behind than a catching motion.
Defense expert said exact force could not be calculated from video alone.
Fine.
The jury had eyes.
Then the kitchen recordings.
Lucia drowsy.
Adrian asking leading questions.
No one called it mind control.
The prosecutor asked:
“Did Lucia appear impaired?”
Yes.
“Can video tell us why?”
No.
Then toxicology.
Confirmatory test.
Medication present.
Not prescribed.
Pharmacy record.
Adrian previously possessed same medication.
Still no direct video of him administering it.
Then Teresa.
Tea.
Medicine cabinet.
Separate cup washing.
Circumstantial chain.
Then phone searches.
Detection window.
Medical incapacity.
Draft affidavit.
The prosecutor never said:
This single search proves guilt.
She assembled pieces.
That made the case stronger.
Then the unsent note:
If blood is drawn tonight this becomes impossible to explain.
Adrian’s lawyer argued it could mean:
His wife’s symptoms would become medically explainable.
The prosecutor asked:
“Then why did he physically knock away the blood tray?”
