School.
After school:
Shoes aligned.
Laundry fold.
Dust.
Evening:
Kitchen sweep.
Toy inspection.
Could some chores be age-appropriate?
Yes.
Most, in moderation.
Then penalties.
Complaint:
Repeat task.
Crying:
Task not completed until calm.
Refusal:
Lose bedroom privilege.
My stomach turned.
Bedroom privilege.
Then:
Laundry hall sleep after Level 3 refusal.
A bedroom was not reward.
Then notes.
Monday:
Complained floor “already clean.”
Redo.
Tuesday:
Left streaks.
Redo.
Wednesday:
Hands sore. Lotion. Continue next day.

She saw.
Then Vaughn’s initials beside some early chores.

He had reviewed initial chart?
“Yes.”
His face collapsed.
“What did you think Level 3 meant?”
“Lose tablet.”
He had only seen first page.
Second page added later.
A pattern now familiar:
Marjorie showed people partial documents.

Each saw enough to believe.
No one saw whole.
Then one note:

Can complete 45 min domestic block.

The chores were travel preparation.
Not because Eleanor required child labor.
She had no idea.
Marjorie believed Ione needed to be “ready” to function without me.
So she created separation.
Laundry hall.
No calling Dad after bedtime.
