Chapter 6 - The Caregiver Authorization

Rebecca obtained the original authorization.
It was clear.
TEMPORARY CAREGIVER AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL AUTHORIZATION.
Valid only while I was traveling for work.
No transfer of legal custody.
No authority to change school.
No international travel unless separately authorized in writing.
There.
Explicit.
Marjorie knew.
Then the document school received.
Same first page.
Second page altered.
The line:
“No authority to change school or travel internationally”
was missing.
A new clause inserted:
“Caregiver may arrange temporary educational placement and travel where reasonably necessary for child’s welfare.”
My signature image at bottom.
Not my document.
Forensic review later showed PDF created on Marjorie’s laptop.
Simple editing.
No hacker.
No forgery ring.
My mother.
Then passport.
How did she get?
Family safe.
Vaughn and Marjorie knew code.
I had stored Ione’s passport there during repairs.
Trust again.
Then airline.
Would airline have asked for parental consent?
Possibly not at U.S. departure beyond passport/travel documentation.
UK border officers might have questioned grandmother.
Marjorie carried:
My altered authorization.
Claire’s death certificate.
Ione’s birth certificate.
Adoption? No need, Fletcher biological father. Yes.
A notarized-looking parental consent letter.
Fake notary?
This was worse.
Rebecca examined.
Signature mine.
Notary stamp belonged to a legitimate notary who had notarized an unrelated property document for me two years earlier.
Copied image.
Potential felony forgery.
Now law had teeth.
Still no completed removal.
Attempt.
Then Marjorie’s lawyer contacted.
She denied intending permanent relocation.
“Temporary educational stay.”
Fine.
Length?
Autumn term through December eighteenth.
Four months.
One-way ticket because return date “dependent on progress.”
That phrase made me sick.
May you like
Progress in what?
Obedience.
