Defense attacked his divorce.
“You are angry with your wife.”

“Financially adverse?”
“We are dividing property.”
“Want her convicted?”
“No.”

“You knew about chores.”
“Yes.”
“You saw Ione cleaning.”
“Yes.”
“You did not call Fletcher.”
“No.”
“Because you did not consider it abuse.”
“At first.”
“Then why now?”
Vaughn looked at jury.
“Because I kept learning what I had chosen not to see.”

Then passport.
He found.
Itinerary.
He stopped trip.
Did Marjorie physically try to take passport back?
“Yes.”
Did she threaten him?
“No.
Did she say Fletcher approved?
“Yes.”
Did he believe?
“No, because one-way ticket.”
Then defense:
“You had no way of knowing Fletcher hadn’t approved privately.”
Vaughn answered:
“I knew my son.”
Not ideal legally, but human.
Then:
“Did you call him?”
“He walked in.”
Timing saved us.
