Michael retired from Ward Fresh at seventy-one.
His final board meeting involved transferring more shares to the employee ownership plan.
Lily’s remaining stake diluted slightly in exchange for value.
She approved through her own adviser.
No family negotiation.
No dinner-table pressure.
No secret vote.
Michael signed only his own documents.
At retirement dinner, Grace Nolan said:
“The most important thing Michael learned was that urgency is not consent.”
He looked at me.
