Chapter 20 - MICHAEL RETURNS TO WARD FRESH

Michael eventually returned to Ward Fresh.
Not as CEO.
As a nonexecutive director elected by employee and outside shareholders after years away.
He accepted only after:
Full conflict review.
No special family voting rights.
Independent chair.
Public disclosure of his assault diversion and family history where required.
Some shareholders opposed him.
One said:
“A Ward should never be near this company again.”
Another said:
“He is not his mother.”
Both had reasons.
Michael won narrowly.
His first major vote involved a supplier safety complaint.
The complaint threatened a profitable contract.
An executive summarized:
“Probably paperwork.”
Michael stopped him.
“Let the engineer finish.”
The engineer described a refrigeration failure risk.
The contract was paused.
Testing found a real defect.
No scandal.
No poisoned families.
No viral story.
