Chapter 11 - CLAIRE MISSES ONE DOSE
The hospital replaced Claire’s medication that night.
She missed one scheduled dose by less than three hours.
Her blood pressure was monitored.
No stroke.
No seizure.
No organ injury.
No dramatic medical collapse.
Her physician adjusted timing so the new dose would not overlap badly with the prior schedule.
The important part was not inventing a catastrophe that did not happen.
The important part was that Vivian had no right to create the risk.
Claire asked the doctor directly:
"Could missing one dose have killed me?"
The doctor answered:
"That is not a useful way to think about it. Your pressure was elevated and postpartum hypertension can become dangerous. We want you taking medication as prescribed. One delayed dose does not let me predict a catastrophe."
Good.
Then Claire asked:
"Can I breastfeed on this?"
"Yes, based on what you’re taking and your clinical situation."
"Does my mother-in-law need to review it?"
The doctor looked confused.
"No."
Claire laughed.
Then cried.
The doctor waited.
