Chapter 17 - MARCELLO’S HEART

Dad’s return did not mean he was completely healthy.
Three weeks after the gala, he became dizzy during lunch.
I panicked.
He hated that.
“It’s blood pressure.”
“You almost collapsed.”
“I sat down.”
“You turned gray.”
“I am Italian. Gray is dramatic.”
His cardiologist adjusted medication.
Nothing catastrophic.
But the episode reminded everyone:
Marcello was still recovering.
Raymond had built an entire plan around assuming recovery would not matter.
Now I was in danger of building my own life around assuming Dad would always be there because he had returned once dramatically through ballroom doors.
He would not.
No parent does.
