Chapter 13 - THE EARRING

My mother’s earring was found under a banquet chair.

Bent.

The post had torn through the lobe when Travis hit me.

A jeweler could repair the earring.

My ear healed.

I did not wear it again.

For months, the missing pair sat in a box.

One damaged.

One perfect.

Dad asked:

“Want me to replace them?”

“No.”

“Same design.”

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because then they become the earrings from the gala forever.”

He understood.

Eventually I had the damaged one repaired.

Then gave both to a jewelry archive for safekeeping.

Not sold.
