Chapter 24 - EVAN CHOOSES NOT TO MEET HER

At eight, Evan watched part of Diane’s apology.

Not the money details.

The part about food.

He sat beside Maya.

I sat across the room.

Diane on screen:

You were not stealing. I used your hunger because I was angry at your mom. That was wrong.

Evan watched twice.

Then asked:

“Does she want see me?”

“Yes.”

“Do I have to?”

“No.”

“Do you want?”

“My job is to help you decide safely, not choose for you.”

He rolled his eyes.

“Mom answer.”

I smiled.

“I do not need you to see her for me.”

He thought.

“No.”

That was his answer.

No meeting.

No guilt.

Diane accepted through counsel.

That mattered too.

The protective order had expired.

Family law no longer prevented supervised contact if everyone agreed.

Evan simply did not want it.

Enough.
