Chapter 16 - MY EMAIL BECOMES PART OF THE CASE

Kathleen Collins requested that my email circulation be included in the disciplinary record.
I objected.
Then realized she was right.
If the school was deciding consequences for her sons based partly on audio I distributed, the context mattered.
At the hearing, Kathleen’s lawyer asked me:
“Did you label my clients’ conduct extortion before the investigation concluded?”
“Yes.”
“Did you send a recording containing another child’s crying voice to adults who were not school officials?”
“Yes.”
“Did you threaten administrators with personal responsibility?”
“I said I would hold them responsible.”
“So yes?”
“Yes.”
“Were you angry?”
“Yes.”
“Could your conduct influence other parents’ statements?”
“Potentially.”
That answer hurt.
Necessary.
Then:
“Did Brady or Jasper ask you to send the email?”
“No.”
“Did Rosalie?”
“No.”
“So that was your choice.”
“Yes.”
Separate responsibility.
Afterward Rosalie asked:
“Were you in trouble?”
“A little.”
“Because email?”
“Yes.”
“Did they ground you?”
I laughed.
“No.”
May you like
“Unfair.”
Maybe.
