Chapter 23 - LAUREN GIVES SOMETHING BACK

Lauren and Kevin sold the Highlands Ranch house.

Not because I demanded it.

Their debt structure became unsustainable after parental support stopped and trust review restricted further extraordinary distributions.

They downsized.

The sale produced equity.

Lauren voluntarily contributed $96,000 toward civil restitution connected to the Harbor transfer.

Legally, she might have fought more.

She chose not to.

“I kept money I should have questioned.”

“That doesn’t make you Dad.”

“I know.”

Good.

No false equivalence.

She also resigned from a paid “family outreach” role Mom had created through a trust-adjacent charitable entity.

$28,000 a year.

Very little actual work.

“I thought it was just Mom helping.”

“It was.”

“That’s the problem.”

She took a full-time HR position.

Kevin rebuilt his contracting work.

No luxury house.

No collapse into poverty.

Just adulthood without constant rescue.
