Chapter 23 - MARCUS AND GERALD

Gerald completed his sentence and supervision later in life.
He requested one meeting with Marcus.
Not Emma.
Marcus surprised me by agreeing.
I asked:
“Why?”
“I need to know whether I can sit across from him without wanting to hit him.”
“That sounds healthy and concerning.”
He smiled.
The meeting took place with a mediator.
Gerald apologized for blocking staff.
For using Marcus’s signature.
For blaming us.
Marcus apologized for breaking his nose.
Gerald said:
“You had every reason.”
Marcus answered:
“No. I had every feeling. Not every reason.”
When he told me that, I cried.

They did not become friends.
No handshake photo.
No reconciliation dinner.
