Gerald’s financial case was document-heavy.
The prosecution alleged he knowingly:
Concealed the engineer’s report.
Submitted a false safety certification.
Used Marcus’s signature image without authorization.
Prepared a false incident narrative.
Pressured Charlotte to sign.
Attempted to obtain my liability acknowledgment.
Misrepresented Cedar Hollow’s condition to buyer and insurer.
Gerald’s defense was predictable.
He believed temporary barriers were sufficient.
Patricia handled decorations.
The copied Marcus signature was a clerical shortcut.
The incident report reflected the family’s understanding at the time.
The settlement packet was normal risk management.
The jury saw emails.
Engineer disagrees.

Gerald had written the mindset himself.

“Did Northbridge?”
“No.”
“Did your granddaughter?”
Gerald’s jaw tightened.
“No.”
“Then whose interests were you protecting?”
“The company.”
“Or your control of it?”
Objection.
Sustained.
The jury would decide from evidence.
Gerald was convicted of transaction fraud, false statements, identity misuse involving Marcus’s signature, and conspiracy to conceal the known hazard.
He was acquitted of one insurance-fraud count where the government could not prove a specific payment had been obtained because of his false certification.
He was also convicted of obstruction-related conduct connected to the post-accident report.
His sentence was substantial but shorter than public anger demanded.

Risk created.
Abuse of trust.
All weighed.
Restitution and fiduciary bans followed.
He lost management control of Hayes Family Events permanently.
