Chapter 20 - PATRICIA’S APPEAL

Patricia appealed.

One conviction involving medical interference was narrowed because the jury instruction had been too broad.

The central child-endangerment conviction remained.

Her sentence decreased modestly.

News headlines said:

PATRICIA HAYES WINS APPEAL.

Marcus slammed his phone onto the table.

“She won?”

“No.”

“It says win.”

“Maya says one count changed.”

Marcus exhaled.

“Why does accuracy always feel like losing?”

Because anger wants total validation.

Law does not exist for that.

Gerald appealed too.

His false-signature conviction remained.

One restitution calculation changed to avoid double recovery with the civil settlement.

Again, not exoneration.
