Chapter 7 - THE JOB

Dustin had been laid off four months earlier.

He never told me.

He left the house every morning.

Laptop bag.

Coffee.

Returned at five-thirty.

I thought he worked.

Instead:

Coworking space.

Gym.

His mother’s house.

Job applications.

Why hide it?

Pride.

And money.

His severance ended after eight weeks.

Our mortgage.

Daycare before kindergarten.

Insurance.

Car payments.

His personal savings fell.

So Dustin requested larger family-support distributions from Meadow’s trust.

Housing share.

Transportation.

Behavioral care.

The trustee paid some.

Denied others.

He had been using Meadow’s money to hide unemployment from me.

Not legally all theft.

Parents can receive approved support benefiting a child.

But concealment mattered.

And false service claims mattered more.
