Divorce improved Daniel’s fatherhood.
That sounds cruel.
It was true.
Without our marriage to hide inside, he had to build his own relationship with Lily.
School pickup.
Dentist.
Homework.
Nightmares.
Birthday cakes.
No Margaret managing.
No me translating.
At ten, Lily asked him:
“Would you do the test again?”
Daniel thought.
“If I genuinely had a legal reason to question paternity, I would talk to your mom and use a proper process.”
“That’s not yes or no.”
“No. I would not secretly hand my sample to Grandma.”
Better.
He had changed enough to distinguish uncertainty from betrayal.
Daniel never returned to Whitmore executive leadership.
The board invited him to apply for a strategy role years later.
He declined first.
Applied eventually after external work and governance training.
He received one nonexecutive seat.
One.
Not branch control.
No family crown.
