Chapter 22 - EAMON AT EIGHTEEN

Eamon’s first adult trust meeting lasted twenty-six minutes.
He was bored by minute four.
The trustee explained:
Education balance.
Investment growth.
Permitted distributions.
College.
Trade programs.
Graduate education.
No personal access to unrestricted cash merely because he turned eighteen.
He asked:
“Can it buy a car?”
“Usually only if directly connected to approved education needs and within policy.”
“Terrible.”
I laughed.
He looked at me.
“You knew?”
“Yes.”
“Why did Aunt commit crimes for boring money?”
The trustee almost choked.
I said:
“Maybe phrase that differently.”
“No.”
Fair.
Eamon studied environmental engineering.
Not law.
Not education.
Not finance.
No trauma destiny.
He used trust money for tuition.
Worked summer jobs.
Bought his own used car because he wanted one outside trust paperwork.
Maisie attended a different university.
