Chapter 15 - DR. HART

Dr. Evelyn Hart became famous online for approximately three days after a guest uploaded the clip of her standing in the doorway with Eamon’s folder.

She hated it.

People called her:

The Principal Who Ended a Fraud Ring.

She did not.

She brought records.

Other people investigated.

She issued one school statement:

Crestwood Academy verifies student achievements through documented teacher and administrative review. We do not comment publicly on minors’ educational records.

That was all.

No talk-show tour.

No viral merchandise.

Good.

Privately, she apologized to me.

“For what?”

“We released duplicate certificates without verifying your authorization.”

“You had a form.”

“A copied signature should have been confirmed.”

She was right.

The school changed procedures.

Then Dr. Hart did something I did not expect.

She asked Eamon whether he wanted his medal recognized again at the spring assembly.

He said no.

She accepted immediately.

No persuasion.

No:

Don’t let Tilda steal your moment.

He was five.

He did not owe anyone a triumphant comeback.

At the assembly, he received no special re-presentation.

Instead he sat with his class.

Clapped for other children.

Ate a cookie afterward.

His medal stayed at home.

Months later he decided to wear it for show-and-tell.

May you like

His choice.

That mattered more than applause.
