Chapter 14 - MARGARET BREAKS WITH DANIEL
Margaret stopped protecting her son after she learned three things.
The baby was male.
Daniel had diverted trust money.
Daniel had planned to move the girls to Oklahoma without telling her the full financial reason.
She had believed she would be grandmother and caregiver.
His internal notes said something else.
Once stable in Tulsa, reduce Mom’s access. She interferes.
Margaret read it.
The woman who helped him control me discovered she had been useful too.
Her anger did not make her innocent.
But it made her cooperative.
She admitted helping restrain me.
Admitted holding rope.
Admitted threatening me.
Admitted saying daughters were worthless.
Admitted preparing statements claiming I fell.
The prosecutor asked:
“Why?”
Margaret said:
“I thought Daniel needed respect in his house.”
“Did Hannah not deserve respect?”
Margaret stared at the table.
“I did not think of it that way.”
“Did you think of Hannah as a person?”
Long silence.

“Not enough.”
That was the first truthful thing she ever gave me without expecting gratitude.
