Chapter 15 - THE DOCUMENT I REALLY SIGNED

I was not blameless in every administrative mess.

Two months after Daniel died, I signed paperwork without reading carefully.

One document authorized Charles to communicate with lenders regarding Daniel’s shares for transition purposes.

Broad language.

Limited duration.

I signed.

That gave Charles legitimate access.

I also ignored annual trust statements.

They arrived.

I archived them.

Too painful.

Daniel’s company logo made me sick.

Naomi asked:

“Why didn’t you review?”

“I didn’t want his company.”

“But Nina owned shares.”

“I know.”

“You had responsibility.”

“I know.”

That was mine.

Grief explained avoidance.

Did not turn it into someone else’s act.

If I had read earlier, maybe I would have caught the proxy extension.

Maybe.

The forgery was still theirs.

My inattention made it easier.

Both facts fit.
